About Jade
I am a guitar tutor with 6 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance alongside several years of part-time work in a guitar repair shop before transitioning to full-time teaching. My instrument repair background gives me practical technical knowledge that most guitar teachers simply do not possess, and I believe this knowledge meaningfully improves my students' relationship with their instruments and accelerates their technical progress by removing instrument-related obstacles. I have taught over 210 students and I am frequently asked by local music shops to advise students and parents on instrument selection and setup, reflecting the genuine reputation I have built in this specific area of expertise.

My guitar teaching includes a substantial and unusual focus on instrument maintenance and setup, an area I believe is neglected by most guitar teachers despite its direct impact on playability, tone, and the long-term enjoyment of learning the instrument. I begin every new student relationship with an assessment of their instrument's setup, because a poorly set up guitar with high action, poor intonation, or worn strings creates technical obstacles that can be mistaken for the student's own technical limitations. String changing is taught as a practical life skill — every student learns to change their own strings competently, understanding string gauge choices, winding technique, and the relationship between fresh strings and tone quality. I teach students to understand and adjust basic action, explaining how this affects playability and how to recognise when professional adjustment is needed versus what they can safely manage themselves. Intonation understanding is addressed so students know how to check whether their guitar is playing in tune with itself across the fretboard, a common but often misunderstood source of frustration. Basic cleaning and care routines are taught including fretboard conditioning, body cleaning, and storage practices that protect the instrument from environmental damage. I help students understand the relationship between their guitar's specific construction — body wood, string type, pickup configuration for electric guitars — and the tonal characteristics they are working with. Troubleshooting common problems — buzzing strings, dead frets, electronic issues for electric guitars — is addressed so students can diagnose problems before assuming professional repair is always necessary. My teaching goal is a guitarist who understands and cares for their instrument as a craftsperson understands their tools.
