About Jamaal
"Beginners and gigging musicians often come to me feeling stuck in their practice routines. Truthfully, I spent years playing in 4 bands and releasing 4 EPs before realizing that raw technique alone does not make a player. My time at the VCA taught me the academic side, but the road and touring across Australia provided the real education.
Since graduating, I have worked with over 100 students to bridge that gap between the bedroom and the stage. Everything I teach comes from those real playing situations where you have to think fast and perform under pressure. You will find my teaching style honest and very hands-on because I hate fluff and wasted time. It is just about getting the music right."

"Focusing on the music is actually the worst way to start if you ignore the mechanics. We get your electric technique and scales sorted first so the instrument becomes an extension of your body.
My 12 years of experience means I know exactly how to fix those stubborn bad habits that stall your progress. A BFA Music Performance degree from the VCA provides the foundation for our deep work on blues progressions and songwriting.
Maintenance and tuning are treated as essential skills rather than boring chores during our time together. Grade exam prep is available for those who need a structured path through the technical requirements.
We utilize a 10.0 rating system for every goal we set during our progress checks. You get a free trial session to assess starting level before we lock in a schedule. This keeps things simple for both of us as we get moving."
