About Rafael

Hello, I'm Rafael, a full-time music teacher based in London.
I started playing the guitar at the age of 16. Since then, I’ve performed in numerous bands, worked in a recording studio producing soundtracks for films, and I am a trained music leader.

I have a BA (Hons) in Music Production for Films, TV and Games.
I hold an ABRSM Grade 8 in classical guitar performance, have a DBS check, and have recently completed a child protection course with the NSPCC.

Over the past decade in London, I’ve gained extensive experience as a full-time music teacher, working with students as young as 4 years old.
Alongside my private lessons, I’ve also taught music for organisations such as HitTheNote, Ashford Place, M-Tech, and Musicus, in schools such as Devonshire Place, Queen's Park School, and Norfolk House.

About the lesson

My lessons usually take place at the student's home, but students are also welcome to visit my studio if they prefer. I’m based in Crouch Hill, North London.
I am extremely passionate about teaching and everything that comes with it. To me teaching is about getting to know the students needs and work towards helping them to achieve their objectives while they are having fun during the lessons. I aim to create a relaxed atmosphere with clear and achievable goals.
In lessons we will cover music theory, rhythm, harmony, technique, ear training, and songs.
The repertoire will be the student’s favourite songs or a syllabus as ABRSM, Trinity or Rockshool if you or your child is preparing for a music exam.
I have completed a Level 3 Award in Education and Training and attended the Music Leader Training course at CM Sounds in 2016/17. This gave me valuable experience in lesson planning, the teaching cycle, law and legislation, workshops, teaching styles, assessing learners, and providing constructive feedback.
I really enjoy working with children and have plenty of patience with all my students - check my reviews on google.
For your reassurance, I hold an enhanced DBS check and can provide references if needed.
Please feel free to send me a message if you have any questions - I would be delighted to help!

Rafael's response
Max is a great student! Always excited about the lesson and willing to explore all the possibilities the instrument can offer. He has progressed a lot in the past months and I am really happy with his musical achievements.

Rafael has been teaching us for almost 7 years. My son could hardly hold the guitar at 6.
Now, Rafael has helped my son complete 4 grades. My son enjoys the way Rafael teaches because he is a gentle, kind and happy knowledgeable tutor. Thanks, Raf.

Rafael is one of the most patient people I know. An active listener, he allows students to find their own pace and their own leaning styles. He is committed and reliable, enthusiastic about teaching.

I started guitar lessons with Rafael and could have not asked for a better teacher. His classes are very well planned and put together, he is very patient to explain everything from scratch as well as excellent in creating a space where I was able to push myself to learn more.

Raf has dedicated a good part of his life to his instrument. He is a prolific guitarist with whom I had the pleasure to work in several different projects over the years.

I learned a lot while playing with him and he always had an eye and a willingness to work together in order to help improve both our playing and the sound we were trying to achieve.
