About Zena

Educated at Haberdashers’ Aske’s and Cambridge University (Gonville and Caius College, Classics), I have been working as a private tutor since 2013. I also home educate my own children.

After graduating, I worked as an auditor at a Big Four accountancy firm, and at a fund of hedge funds, but soon realised that my passion lay elsewhere. I knew I wanted to home educate my own children, and this naturally translated into tutoring. I find it incredibly exciting to help my students along their journeys and watch them achieve and flourish. All my students are different, and I pride myself on the relationships I build with them. The connection between the tutor and the student is, in my opinion, the most important factor in what can be accomplished.

I have an Enhanced DBS and I work for several agencies as well as taking on my own students.

About the lesson

I can help with any goal, whether it’s getting an offer from a dream school, improving the English of a foreign language student enough for them to take their English GCSEs, or igniting a love of Latin. I can follow the National Curriculum, help with exam techniques, or utilise the student’s natural curiosity. Recent lessons have included reading Dr Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham in Latin, and analysing the latest Bob Dylan lyrics with a foreign language student. When tutoring maths, I like to focus on true understanding and problem solving, rather than algorithms.
All my lessons are designed specifically for the student, and vary greatly depending on the student’s goals.
