About Elizabeth

I am OCT (Ontario College of Teachers) certified and have been teaching high school English since 2012, both in a Canadian and international context. I graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor's in English and History, and I also hold a Master of Teaching from the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education.

My passion is to help people become better readers and writers because I really believe these skills are the foundation to success, whatever it is you want to do with your life!

About the lesson

You may be struggling because the pandemic caused a significant setback in your learning, English is not your first language, or reading and writing has just never been your forte. Whatever the case, I am passionate about guiding students to become better readers and writers.

I have a warm and encouraging teaching style and always start my journey with students seeking to understand what they hope to achieve. With this in mind, we can develop the best plan of action to achieve results!

My lessons are focused, engaging, and have plenty of opportunities for application and rich feedback. I welcome students of all ages, but specialize in working with students in middle school, high school, or students hoping to develop their language skills in order to pursue jobs or post-secondary education.

Some areas I can help you with are:

- Reading Comprehension: are you always confused as to how to make sense of a novel and analyze a text? Do you struggle to take away main ideas and relevant details when reading articles or other texts? Whatever the case, I will walk with you through the process of reading and teach you tools and efficient methods to be a confident reader!

- Essay writing or writing assignments: let's be honest. Writing an essay can be brutal. But it doesn't have to be. We can go back to the basics and I can demystify the essay so that you can become an effective writer. I also provide rich feedback on writing, which is key to becoming a better writer!

- Language development or TOEFL/IELTS help: If English is not your first language, I can provide tailored lessons that work on specific areas of need, whether that is in reading, writing, speaking, or listening.
