About Ethan
I love to learn and want to help others develop enthusiasm and passion for learning new things. I scored a 1560 on the SAT with a 790 on the Math section and a 770 on the Reading and Writing Section. I'm currently taking Multivariable Calculus and AP Physics C and have earned 5s on the AP Chemistry, AP Calculus BC, AP Physics 1, AP Literature, AP US History, and AP Statistics exams. I have succeeded in difficult classes in both math and reading and writing so I'm well qualified to help with preparation for both sections of the SAT. I also self-studied for the test so I have a good understanding of the kind of preparation that will get students the scores they want.

I've been a tutor on UPchieve for 2 years and I've helped many students better understand what they're learning in ways that are enjoyable for them. I make sure my students not only know how to do the problems, but that they understand the why behind what they're doing so that they can make connections and be more successful in the long run. After they take an initial Bluebook practice SAT, my student and I will look through their strengths and weaknesses in the math section and the reading and writing section to determine how much of our time should be dedicated to each and what skills to spend more time on. A typical lesson will start with reviewing the homework from the previous session. I'll encourage the student about what they did well and understand their thinking process for what they struggled with. I'll then teach a skill or continue teaching one from the last session, give them practice questions on the topic, and help them summarize what they learned and should apply to their practice at home.

I, Julia Goldberg, have had the pleasure of meeting Ethan Chibwe, who is a fellow classmate. Ethan has been in my math class each year of high school and has proved to be a reliable source. I highly recommend Ethan Chibwe as a tutor. He helped me understand math concepts when I didn’t understand them. He would patiently work through problems with me and explain them in multiple different ways until I found an approach that clicked. I especially appreciated that he recognized that everyone learns differently and never assumed there was only one “right” way to understand a concept. I also worked with him while studying for my SAT. He was again very patient with me and with ease explained every problem I didn’t get. He made me feel confident in the different types of SAT questions. Specifically, he helped me understand all of the grammar rules in the reading and writing section in English. He would break them down in the simplest terms and have the easiest examples on hand. What I specifically liked about him as well was that he never made me feel stupid for not understanding something. He always encouraged me to ask questions and created an environment where I felt comfortable making mistakes and learning from them. Again, I highly recommend Ethan Chibwe as a tutor. I will let the numbers speak for themselves. When I first took the SAT, I got a 1270, and when I took it last, with Ethan’s help, I got up to a 1500!
Ethan helped me with Geometry so much. He spent his time and really wanted to help me. I love how much he cared about me and other students, and he would be a great tutor.
