About Gabriel Thomas
Hello, I'm Gabriel. I am someone who loves to learn and who has been interested in every subject in school since I can remember. I have always chosen to take hard classes, especially in math and statistics. This love of learning has brought me to tutoring, where I enjoy being on the other end of the process. Aside from school I am a wrestler, placing 3rd in New England and Varsity Captain of the Brookline High School team. I am also an avid fly fisherman and home cook.
As for my qualifications, I have been a tutor and youth wrestling coach for 3 years, and I have experience teaching students of all ages, where there is a language barrier, over zoom, in person, and more. I have taught English and math at various levels, and for each student I created unique lesson plans to help them progress at their pace. I received a 1570 SAT score, 790 for math and 780 for reading and writing, and I have had an all honors or advanced level course load since the beginning of high school. I am an incoming freshman and wrestler at the University of Chicago, where I plan to put my love of interdisciplinary thinking to great work in this challenging environment.

I brainstorm with you about what you want to accomplish and your long term goals to understand how best to create lessons for you.
A typical lesson consists of some review of the previous one, with most of the lesson being progression in the topic, and ending with a stretch problem to work on and think about until next time. There is always room for plenty of questions and discussion, as that is where the real learning comes from. As a tutor, I do not want to lecture to you, but engage with you and discuss for a more meaningful experience for both of us.
These lessons are for students in middle school or high school who are interested in more than just the right answers, but who like to explore topics and learn more deeply about the subject.
