About Gráinne

I read English Language and Literature at New College, Oxford, graduating in 2016. Before moving to the UK for university I have lived in Ireland and the United Arab Emirates, and I recently completed my training as an actor at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

My passion for tutoring comes from belonging to a family of educators. This has instilled in me a strong belief in the potential of each student; seeing students tap into this potential is what makes this job so exciting for me. My approach is to encourage a playful, confident attitude to learning, seeking out what captures the imagination of the student, and equipping them with the tools they need to become independent thinkers.

I understand how stressful exams can be for students at any age, and I aim to promote healthy practices that will lessen their anxiety and improve confidence and creativity. Having lived abroad as a child, I am especially empathetic with the experience of pupils who are undergoing a change of scene, whether it be a new form class, school, curriculum, country or, now, online learning.

About the lesson

I tutor clients in areas ranging from:

- 11+, 13+, 14+ entrance exams (successful applications include Eton, City School for Boys, Westminster, Dulwich College, Winchester, St. Paul's School for Boys)
- English Language and Literature GCSEs
- A-Level Language and Literature
- Oxbridge applications
- Undergraduate coursework and dissertations
- Adult learning (for qualifications, for those who have an interest in improving their appreciation of the subject or for those who want help with their own writing)

I also work with students on verbal and non-verbal reasoning and interview skills and I particularly enjoy working on essay composition and creative writing as well as close readings of texts.

Note on bookings: bookings need to made minimum 24 hours before the lesson. As is this site policy, cancellations within 24 hours cannot be refunded (unless cancellation is made for exceptional circumstances).

Note on essay sessions: if you would like thorough feedback on university, A-Level or IB essays I ask that they be sent at least 24 hours before the lesson, so I have adequate time to go through them.
