About Laura

I have been a teacher for 20+ years. I started my career teaching English as a Foreign Language abroad, then trained as a secondary English teacher. I applied my background in Psychology to specialise in literacy and SEND, then I became a Psychology and Social Science teacher (e.g. Sociology and H&SC).

I have a first class degree in Psychology, and a broad and deep knowledge of the subject. My particular interests are biopsychology, cognitive and educational psychology, neurodivergence and mental health; I am presently back at university studying for an MSc in Education, and just completed a paper on ADHD.

Throughout my career, it has been a pleasure and privilege to share my knowledge and enthusiasm for Psychology with young people. I have a rich store of creative, interactive strategies to help you learn exam content and skills, and I will help you understand theories in real world contexts to make them engaging, meaningful and memorable.

About the lesson

Over the course of my career, I have worked with students, examiners and colleagues to develop engaging and highly effective strategies for teaching Psychology using psychology; for example, research into memory, attention and motivation.

As a tutor, I will help you identify your drive, set goals and devise strategies to overcome any barriers you face.

I will personalise your learning, make your course content interesting and accessible, show you how to get the marks for different types of questions, and explore your own ideas and interests in Psychology.

You will benefit from expert guidance on academic literacy to improve your outcomes and increase your prospects of success at university and beyond.

If you want to pursue Psychology beyond A-level, I will be delighted to advise you on pathways, support your applications and help you to achieve the grades you need, typically A*-B; I can also support Extended Projects to help you win the place you want.

I also have extensive experience of supporting young people through GCSEs and A-levels. I am solution-focused and completely non-judgemental, so if you are struggling with organisation, motivation, deadlines, anxiety, etc., I can help you get back on track.

If you need support for English language or literacy skills, e.g. if English is an additional language for you, or if you are dyslexic, I can tailor your tuition to suit your needs.

I can also provide specialist support for your learning if you have ADHD, autism/ASD, social emotional mental health (SEMH) needs, physical or learning disabilities, or other SEND.
