About Charmaine

Hi, I’m a law graduate who has always loved the humanities—especially English and Literature. Back in secondary school, Literature was my favorite subject, and I figured out a way to do well in exams for it too. Studying law later strengthened my skills in reading critically, writing clearly, and building strong arguments - all of which I now enjoy passing on to my students. My goal is to help you gain confidence, improve your grades (with my experience on how to succeed in the Singaporean system!), and maybe even discover a real love for the subject along the way.

About the lesson

My Approach to Tutoring:
I believe every student learns differently, so I tailor my lessons to their unique strengths, challenges, and goals. My methodology combines clear explanations, interactive discussion, and practical exercises to deepen understanding. I place strong emphasis on critical thinking, essay structuring, and evidence-based argumentation, ensuring students can apply their knowledge with confidence in both exams and real-life contexts.

Lesson Structure:
A typical lesson is 60–90 minutes, depending on the student’s needs and attention span. Each session usually begins with a quick review of past material, followed by targeted teaching, guided practice, and feedback.

Qualifications & Experience:
I am a law graduate with strong academic credentials in the humanities, having topped my cohort in Literature at a top girls’ secondary school in Singapore and made it to the dean’s list at a top JC in Singapore for English Language and Linguistics. My background equips me with both subject expertise and advanced analytical skills, which I adapt to suit the student’s level.

Who My Lessons Are For:
I tutor upper primary to junior college students, as well as adults seeking to strengthen their English speaking, writing or analytical skills. My subjects include English and Literature, with a focus on helping students achieve both academic success and lasting appreciation for the subject.
