About Mike

Hello, I'm Mike Gordon and I started The Learning Lounge music school in Turramurra 27 years ago. Yes, 27! I am very proud of this business and am thankful that with the aid of my family and some 14 wonderful teachers I have been able to keep it going, with some 220 students a week. I have played music in duos & bands & have recorded several albums, as well as being a finalist in several songwriting contests. I play rhythm and lead guitar, bass guitar, drums and do lead vocals and backup vocals. I have organized rock groups at several public schools and worked in music retail for years. I can provide unbiased advice on topics from putting a band together, buying music equipment, songwriting, recording and other facets of music like rehearsing and practicing successfully. I also sell/repair musical instruments and have started to make my own instruments

About the lesson

If you are serious about investing your precious time and money then I want to make sure you get true value out of that investment. You must understand one thing though- you only get out of it what YOU put into it. The reality is if you can't put in 20 minutes a day/5 days a week then progress will be slow. Forget ads on social media saying "Learn Guitar in 5 Minutes!" as that is rubbish. Copying what someone shows you is copying, and you may think you are being taught, but have you learned? Using my "Gordon System" I will "TEACH" you in an informative and fun way as I believe lessons should be educational and entertaining! I do this using... -Videoing or recording lessons if you like so you can relax during your lesson. - I use a large 22" screen and surround sound with Spotify, YouTube etc and many programs designed to teach you, not show you. I have an abundance of organized teaching tools from tabs, and backing tracks and 1000's of free handout sheets teaching you the songs you want to learn; systems that make sure my students understand important basic musical ideas and concepts, relating to the music they listen to, NOT just showing them some songs and riffs. I have a fun and informative approach and want all of my students to get the most out of every lesson.
