About José

I am a multi-instrumentalist, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Studies from Concordia University (Montreal), with over 20 years of experience in performance and more than 10 in teaching. With a background in Classical Guitar, I went on to find my musical voice through improvised Music. Through the years, I amassed the necessary knowledge and tools to perform in a variety of contexts as diverse as Jazz, Funk, Rock, Folk and World Music amongst others. Ever the curious mind, I've found myself working as a Musician in the capacities of performer (as both lead and side-man), composer, arranger, producer, researcher and educator. This versatility allows me a teaching method that focuses on the student's musical tastes, tailoring them into learning tools that gradually promote proficiency and autonomy.

About the lesson

I can help you whether you're interested in . getting started with the instrument, . learning basic chords, strumming patterns and melodies, . getting started with fingerpicking, . learning campfire songs for fun with family and friends, . becoming adept at accompanying a singer, or looking to get more serious with . improving your technique, . building your chord game and accompaniment skills, . soloing and improvising, . understanding the elements of Music Theory, . learning to transcribe a song/solo, notate it and analyze it, . composing your own material.

You're a motivated learner with great practice ethic. Because of that, your development as a musician has been very steady and your skills are becoming more solid every week.

Some technique reinforcement is required so that you can play more relaxed, which will improve your sense of tempo, accentuation and groove.

In my opinion you have moved past the beginner level and are ready to address intermediate topics, which will provide you a better understanding of music theory and more involved bass playing tools.
