Find your French tutor in Doubleview

Teaching yourself French starts with a structured plan and consistent daily practice.

• Grammar foundations: start with present-tense conjugations, noun genders and basic sentence structure.
• Essential vocabulary: master greetings, numbers, food, travel and daily-life words to build confidence fast.
• Immersive listening: watch French content with subtitles and listen to native speakers as often as possible.
• Active speaking: say words and sentences out loud to build muscle memory and improve your spoken French.

A private tutor accelerates the process by correcting your mistakes in real time and adapting lessons to your goals.

In Doubleview, expect to pay about $30/h for a French lesson.

Pricing can vary based on:

Most teachers offer a free trial lesson so you can test their approach.

Applied to French, the 80/20 rule means focusing on the vocabulary and grammar patterns that appear most often in real conversations.

• High-frequency vocabulary: the 1,000 most common French words account for roughly 85% of everyday speech — learn those first.
• Core grammar: a handful of tenses handle most of what you need to say day to day, so get those right first.
• Fixed expressions: learning language chunks — like "qu'est-ce que," "il faut" and "c'est" — builds fluency far faster than isolated words.
• Targeted review: use spaced repetition to focus your effort on the 20% of material that causes 80% of your errors.

A French tutor helps you identify exactly which 20% to focus on for your personal goals and current level.
