Find your design tutor in Southport

Plenty of designers are self-taught, and a structured approach makes the process much faster.

• Learn the fundamentals before software, so you understand why a design works and not just how to make one.
• Practise with free tools such as Figma or Canva, which let you experiment without expensive software licences.
• Study real examples from brands you like, analysing their use of space, contrast, and hierarchy.
• Build a small portfolio early on, even with practice briefs, so you can track your progress over time.

A design tutor can tailor lessons to your goals, whether that's branding, UI, or print.

A private graphic design lesson in Southport generally runs around $35/h.

Several things affect the final price:

• Whether you're a complete beginner or already have some experience
• How qualified and experienced the tutor is
• The length and frequency of your lessons
• The lesson format, whether online, in person, or at the tutor's studio

Many tutors offer a discounted rate for block bookings to help lower the overall cost.

These principles form the backbone of graphic design, from logos to full campaigns.

• Balance keeps elements arranged so the design feels stable rather than cluttered on one side.
• Contrast highlights important content by making it visually distinct from the rest.
• Hierarchy organises content by importance, so viewers know where to look first.
• Alignment and repetition create consistency, tying separate elements together into one cohesive design.

Personalised feedback from a tutor helps you apply these principles with confidence.
