Find your painting tutor in East Cannington

Teaching yourself to paint is a rewarding journey that starts with a few key habits and the right materials.

• Choose your medium: start with acrylics or watercolours, as they are forgiving and easy to clean up.
• Think in shapes and values: train your eye to see light, shadow, and form rather than just outlines.
• Limit your colours: fewer hues force you to mix intentionally, which deepens your understanding of colour theory.
• Practise composition: learn basic rules such as the rule of thirds to make your paintings visually balanced and engaging.

A private painting tutor can fast-track your progress by giving personalised feedback and keeping you on the right path.

A private painting lesson in East Cannington costs approximately $35/h.

This rate varies depending on several factors:

• The level of study and your learning goals
• The instructor's credentials and track record
• The duration and frequency of lessons
• The lesson format (online, at home, or at the tutor's studio)

Many tutors offer package discounts for booking multiple lessons.

Understanding the stages of painting helps beginners approach each session with clarity and purpose.

• Preparation: the canvas or surface is primed with a base coat, often white, to ensure paint adheres evenly and consistently.
• Initial lay-in: the main forms and light/dark relationships are sketched in with diluted paint, mapping out the painting.
• Development: detail and complexity are built up gradually, with each layer contributing to the final effect.
• Finishing and touch-ups: final details, highlights, and corrections are made to bring the painting to completion.

Understanding these stages makes the painting process feel far less daunting and far more enjoyable.
