Find a Psychology Tutor in Mount Helen

Psychologists group learning into classical conditioning, operant conditioning, observational learning, and insight learning.

• Classical conditioning connects an unrelated trigger to an involuntary behaviour. Pavlov's dog salivating at a bell is the famous example.
• Operant conditioning shapes behaviour through rewards and punishments. Praising effort makes students more likely to try again.
• Observational learning happens when we watch and imitate others. Children pick up habits by watching parents or peers.
• Insight learning involves a sudden "aha" moment of understanding. This explains breakthroughs that seem to arrive out of nowhere.

Understanding these types helps tutors tailor lessons to how each student naturally absorbs information.

A private psychology lesson in Mount Helen usually runs about $70/h.

What you pay depends on:

• Your academic stage (Year 11–12, uni, or honours level)
• Your tutor's background (registered psychologist, PhD candidate, or recent graduate)
• How long and how often you meet (one-off sessions vs weekly bookings)
• The delivery mode (online, in-home, or at the tutor's location)

Many tutors offer discounted rates for regular bookings, which can lower your overall cost.

Psychologists work to describe, explain, predict, and ultimately guide mental processes and actions.

• Describe — Psychologists start by detailing thoughts, feelings, and actions objectively.
• Explain — Once described, they investigate why behaviour occurs.
• Predict — With explanations, psychologists forecast future behaviour.
• Control — Therapies and interventions stem from this goal.

These four steps form the backbone of every psychology study, from lab experiments to therapy sessions.
