About James
I’m James, a 20-year-old who achieved all A*s in my Economics, Maths and Politics A-Levels in 2022. Since I finished school I’ve been pursuing a career as a songwriter and recording artist - and I also love academia and particularly teaching. Therefore, I tutor alongside my deepest passion, which is creating music. One reason I like teaching is because a strength of mine is patience with students when they are struggling to understand a concept. I experienced the sense of struggle myself when I was in school not so long ago, and discovered that to build confidence in something you need to take it very slowly, at a pace that allows the foundations of a concept to truly be absorbed into your understanding, which will then cause the more advanced concepts to come naturally. I found this to be proven true in my own results. My other interests include theology, working out in the gym, board games and finance.

I like to teach students by going back to the fundamentals of economics - explaining in depth why curves are the way they are (for example). This builds a firm foundation, making the entire subject far easier to understand and retain. I naturally took this approach in my own revision and it proved to work very well. I’ve got my three exam papers to show students model answers that brought me the A*. It wasn’t long ago that I was a student, so I can quickly tell how to help a student, because I’ve been there very recently! I myself started from a grade C and ended with a 91% A*.
