About Aliyah
I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in Elementary Education. I have worked in grades 1, 3, 4, and 5. I then found a passion for teaching math and received a math endorsement. I then taught middle school math as well as Geometry, Algebra, AFDA, and Pre-Calculus.
I have also received an endorsement teaching ELL in addition to a 150 hour TEFL certification since I am often teaching students who speak English as a second language.

Hey Heyy,
My name is Aliyah. I am a licensed teacher from Virginia but for the past 4 years have been teaching around the globe. I have taught in Aus, Thailand, Egypt, Chile, United States, Qatar among other places. I love teaching almost as much as I love traveling. I can't imagine doing anything else. Tutoring is something I enjoy doing on the side.
My lessons revolve around the needs of the student. I have had students who are already doing really well in math and just want to keep the momentum. I have had some homeschool families who I would work with multiple times a week as the main form of math instruction.
My majority of students are those who struggle and hate math. I believe to my CORE that math is possible for everyone. I rarely ever have one single student in the classroom or tutoring that leaves not liking math just a little more than before or at the least, a lot more confident in their ability to do math.
My teaching and explaining strategy is NOT rote memorization or "tricks" so the first couple sessions might feel really draining but once we are regular, things start to make sense. "Tricks" are created by your brain, on its own, when it fully understands a concept and is able to skip steps because it knows the pattern. My goal is to teach you until you understand so well that your brain is able to find the "tricks" or "short cuts" by itself.
