About Myla

I have 18 years of experience teaching mathematics at all levels in a high school setting. For the past nearly 5 years I have been home with my own school aged children, but I am ready to put my teaching skills to good use once again. I am still licensed and in fact I completed my masters in education AFTER leaving the classroom. Yes, I love education that much!

I believe that enthusiasm and encouragement go a long way when trying to convey concepts to my students. I truly understand that not everyone enjoys math and many feel that they simply cannot do it. I say, you just haven't come across the right teacher for you yet!

About the lesson

As a teacher, I believe that it is my duty to hold each of my students to the highest expectations. That does not mean that I expect each student to perform at the same level. It does mean that with dedication, perseverance, and hard work, every student will rise to the occasion and achieve their own personal best.

Over the span of my career, I have designed student-centered lessons that catered to many different learning styles. I am known for my clear and organized teaching style and for being able to break down difficult concepts into more manageable chunks where knowledge can be built upon. Co-teaching courses with special education staff has given me invaluable practice incorporating accommodations and modifications for students with special needs or differing learning styles into my lesson plans. I have enthusiastically approached every teaching opportunity and it has been rewarding to have my students respond positively to my teaching style.

My teaching experience is all at the high school level, but I would also be comfortable working with middle school students in algebra or college students taking basic math, algebra 1 or algebra 2.
