About Jesse

**My Tutoring Approach**

I am passionate about helping young learners build strong foundations in reading, spelling, and writing. My tutoring approach is structured, supportive, and tailored to each child’s individual learning pace. I aim to create a positive and encouraging environment where students feel confident to practice new skills, ask questions, and develop a love for learning.

I teach using a systematic phonics-based approach and follow the *Little Learners Love Literacy* scope and sequence. This evidence-based program helps students learn how sounds work within words and supports the development of accurate reading, spelling, and letter formation. Each lesson includes explicit teaching, guided practice, and opportunities for students to apply their learning independently. This structured progression allows students to steadily build their skills and confidence.

Once students have progressed through the full scope and sequence, I extend their learning into writing. At this stage, students begin developing story writing and learning different text types. These lessons are presented using interactive PowerPoint presentations that help students understand how to organize ideas, structure sentences, and express their thoughts clearly in writing.

A typical lesson runs for **45 to 60 minutes**, allowing time to review previously learned concepts, introduce new skills, and practice through engaging activities. I ensure lessons remain interactive and supportive so students stay motivated and confident in their learning.

I have experience working with **primary school students**, particularly in the early years when strong literacy foundations are most important. My lessons are designed for **Foundation/Prep to Year 3–4 students** who are developing their reading, spelling, and writing skills or who may benefit from additional support and structured practice.

My goal is to help every student build confidence in their abilities while developing the essential literacy skills they need to succeed at school.

Students learn how to read, write, and spell through carefully sequenced activities that reinforce phonemic awareness, decoding, and correct letter formation. I incorporate hands-on activities, repetition, and targeted practice to ensure concepts are understood and retained.

Once students complete the full scope and sequence, lessons progress to developing writing skills. At this stage, I introduce story writing and a variety of text types using interactive PowerPoint presentations. These visual and interactive lessons help students learn how to structure their writing, organize ideas, and build confidence in expressing themselves.
