About Melissa

I achieved two A*'s in my English Literature and Language GCSE's. I am currently studying English Literature for an A Level, and achieved an A in my mocks. I am predicted an A for the final exam. I currently also study Film, and previously studied History and Religious Studies (in which I achieved A*'s), so I have a thorough experience in essay based subjects.

About the lesson

My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence when facing exam questions and unfamiliar texts. I will help to find an authorial voice in their essays, and help them write with a clear line of argument, rather than rambling on in paragraphs.

My experience has taught me that one to one tuition can help the student in this sense as it brings an individual value to the table, where we can resolve personal learning barriers and build connections between the student and the text.

I think essay questions and plans are an effective working method, however, previously, for my Year Nine students, I have scrapped that all together and just started from the basics, with spelling and phonics.

I don’t lecture to students or pick on them at any time. I don't expect them to know everything, but I won't do the work for them, either. I believe the comfortability and confidence for the student is the most important thing.
