About Marié
I am from South Africa. I have just on 20-years’ experience working in higher education. I have worked with students from all over the world as well as colleagues from many different institutions globally. I have completed two honours degrees, one in Psychology and one in Criminology. I have been tutoring online to second-year Criminology students at the University of South Africa for the past 6 years.
I have recently refocused and completed my one hundred and eighty-hour TEFL course. This was a comprehensive course that taught me how to teach English effectively and efficiently.
I am therefore very excited to embark on a journey to teach you all that I can about the English language.
I also have corporate experience with a lot of written work that I have done over the years, from writing policies, procedures, to taking verbatim notes for disciplinary meetings. I have also done board and faculty agendas and minutes and many other tasks. I have extensive knowledge of the working world and have experience in business and educational English.

I am bilingual and can speak read and write Afrikaans fluently. I can also read and understand Dutch but on an elementary level as it is closely related to Afrikaans.
I love the English language so rest assured I will give you my best and help you stay motivated with interesting but relevant lessons! I am enthusiastic and VERY patient and I am confident that I can help you reach your goals and help improve your fluency and accuracy in grammar and vocabulary. The methodology that I employ is task-based learning within the framework of the PPP Model (Presentation, Practice, and Production).
The main aim of this combined approach to learning is task completion within a controlled format.
I set relevant and interesting tasks and students are expected to use the newly acquired knowledge and skills and together draw on their pre-existing knowledge of English to complete the task with as few errors as possible.
I enfold task-based learning into the PPP model (Presentation of the target language or structure, the Practice of the newly acquired vocabulary or grammar rules and structure thereof and the Production (use) of the new vocabulary or target structure), which forms the basis of my lesson plans.
The reason for using the PPP method is largely for its simple and logical way for formatting a lesson. It allows for the use of a variety of different activities (including task-based activities) to help meet the needs of the students. It also helps to build student confidence as they are able to progress through the stages through controlled practice.
My approach to teaching is one of patience and encouragement. I strive to create a safe learning environment where mistakes are simply considered a form of learning. I encourage and help students to achieve their best and to discover their full potential.
