  • Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

Mathematics is far more than a collection of numbers and formulas; it is the fundamental language of the universe, offering a unique lens through which we can understand the world's underlying patterns and logic. My fascination with the subject began in secondary school when I moved past simple arithmetic and discovered the elegance of algebraic proofs. I realized that while other disciplines shift as new theories emerge, the truths of mathematics are constant and universalβ€”there is a profound beauty in the certainty of a well-constructed solution. This personal passion, combined with the immense satisfaction of guiding a student through a difficult concept until they reach that 'aha!' moment of clarity, is what ultimately drew me into education. I want to help my students see that math is not a subject to be feared, but a powerful tool for critical thinking and creative problem-solving that they will use throughout their lives.
  • What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

The primary motivation behind my career choice is the 'Aha!' momentβ€”that specific second when a student’s confusion transforms into clarity and confidence. To me, math is the hidden architecture of the world, from the symmetry of a leaf to the algorithms of a smartphone. I teach because I find immense joy in being the guide who reveals this beauty to others. My 'who' is the curious mind, and my 'why' is the profound satisfaction of helping a student realize that the universe is written in a language they can actually speak.
  • How does your work help society?

My work helps society by equipping the next generation with the logical tools they need to navigate an increasingly complex world. I don't just teach numbers; I teach resilience in the face of failure and the ability to analyze information critically. By helping students master math, I am removing the barriers to their success and ensuring that our future leaders, innovators, and citizens are grounded in reason and evidence.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

My role model is Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, specifically as portrayed in his autobiography, Wings of Fire. I identify with him because he believed that 'Dream is not that which you see while sleeping, it is something that does not let you sleep.'
As a math teacher, I see my classroom through the lens of his journeyβ€”from a humble background to the 'Missile Man' of India. He taught me that mathematics is not just a school subject; it is the fundamental 'fuel' for a student’s 'Wings of Fire.' Just as Kalam used the logic of science and math to lift a nation’s aspirations into space, I want to use math to lift my students out of their self-doubt.
I am motivated by his story to look for the 'best brains' on the last benches. My goal is to be like the teachers Kalam describedβ€”those who don't just provide formulas, but who provide the 'vision' that allows a student to fly. Every time I help a student overcome a difficult equation, I feel I am helping them build the same resilience and technical discipline that Kalam used to change the world.
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

I love reading autobiographies and non-fiction books. I play the outdoor game of volleyball.
  • Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

Early in my career, I had a student who was deeply frustrated with geometry. He would constantly ask, "When am I ever going to use this in real life?" and his frustration was beginning to turn into a complete disinterest in school.
One afternoon, I noticed him sketching intricate car designs in the back of his notebook. Instead of reprimanding him, I sat down and showed him how the "boring" coordinate geometry and angles we were studying were actually the secret to the aerodynamic curves and structural integrity of the cars he was drawing.
I gave him a project to design a model using specific geometric constraints. For the first time, he stayed after schoolβ€”not because he had to, but because he wanted to. Watching his frustration transform into a sense of power over the subject was a turning point for me.
That experience taught me that my work isn't about forcing students to memorize formulas; it’s about finding the "hook" that connects math to their personal passions. I realized that as a teacher, I am a translator, turning abstract symbols into the tools my students need to build their own futures. It remains the most rewarding part of my journey.
