About George

I have a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science (Security and Resilience) from Newcastle University, and am currently completing the third year of my PhD in Computer Science Education, also at Newcastle. I have been tutoring for over 6 years, working with eight year olds and seniors alike, and anyone in between. I have extensive experience teaching Computer Science to GCSE, A Level, and Undergraduate specifications, alongside informal programming education in Python, Rust, C, HTML, and CSS. Outside of this, I am an active volunteer with a large, international First Aid charity, holding a First Responders on Scene: Emergency First Responder qualification.

About the lesson

Computer Science is a dynamic specialism, with fascinating links to nearly all disciplines across most subjects. My approach to tutoring, therefore, aims to reflect this dynamism. My lessons always focus on a student's bespoke needs. In collaboration with each student, one of my first priorities is to establish a transparent learning plan, so that students understand what they can expect from each lesson. Of course, these plans constantly evolve and adapt in line with the student's progress and development. With a clear plan established, my lessons mostly focus on applied learning. I always aim to develop real-world analogous ways to explain concepts in an approachable way, and to provide interactive examples to solidify learning. Lessons are usually an hour in length, and I predominantly teach online.

George has been a wonderful role model to our son, where his calm and positive disposition coupled with his strong computing background meant that he has played an important role in providing the stretch and challenge in Computer Science for our son.
George is a natural mentor - he was able to pinpoint from his first session with our son (aged 12 at the time) what areas he needed to focus on, and had a clear plan for him going forward. His indepth knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for computing has not only encouraged and inspired our son but has also provided him the drive and confidence to pursue a future career in tech. I would highly recommend George to anyone.
