About Hope
As a University of Virginia graduate, with a degree in Mathematics, I have always loved numbers and science. After graduation I began my professional career as a business analyst for a bank, only to feel as though my creativity and problem-solving skills were being continually stifled. I then spent time as a strategy consultant for a boutique management consulting company. While I enjoyed this experience, I still felt something was missing. I decided to pursue a master's degree in economics from Johns Hopkins University. Throughout my master's program, I tutored as I had done in undergrad. This allowed me to realize that my passion lies in solving problems, and teaching others to solve them. Suddenly my part-time income became a full-time career.
In late 2022 I graduated with a master's degree in Educational Psychology with a concentration in learning, motivation and cognition from George Mason University. With my own professed love for learning I just couldn’t help but enjoy exploring this topic in an academic setting. I was able to research motivation, cognition, self-regulation and their role in learning especially in learning for those with learning differences such as dyslexia.
My background in problem solving allows me to work with each individual student to discover how he or she can most effectively learn and use skills to understand the required material. I also work with groups of teachers to help them develop curriculum, understand how to best teach test prep and help them better relate with students. It is my goal not just to help my students solve the problems they are facing today but help them be better prepared for the problems they will face tomorrow. As adults, many of us do not remember the details of our studies in high school, but the problem-solving strategies, love of learning, and life skills we learned have stuck with us and shaped our futures.
I have experience working with students ages 11 and up. I specialize in helping students with learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD and executive functioning challenges. I work with students and families to create lasting strategies to make future learning easier and more enjoyable.
