About Roy
I've spent my career on the business side rather than in a classroom and I think that's what makes the lessons useful.
I hold an MBA and a Bachelor of Commerce from Murdoch University, and a Diploma in Business Management from Nanyang Polytechnic. That means I've gone through the full diploma to degree to master's route myself, so I know exactly where each stage gets harder and what the jump between them really demands.
Day to day, I'm the CEO of a Singapore based family office. The work covers capital allocation, governance, operations and managing people and relationships across generations. So when we cover strategy, operations, negotiation or organizational behavior, I'm not reading theory back to you. I'm telling you what happens when you apply it and what happens when you get it wrong.
On the primary side, I'm a father of two children in primary school. Sitting with my own kids through science concepts and composition planning taught me something no qualification did, which is that patience matters more than cleverness. Kids don't need you to be brilliant. They need you to slow down and stay calm while they figure it out.
I take teaching seriously. I turn up prepared, I keep parents and students updated on progress honestly, and I'll tell you plainly if I'm not the right fit for a subject rather than take the booking anyway.

Primary School Students:
With primary science and English, I want the child to actually get it before we start drilling papers. A lot of kids who look weak at science just haven't been shown what the question is really asking. So we talk it through in plain words, link it to something they've seen before, then go into past year papers.
For English I work on comprehension technique, vocabulary in context, and planning a composition before writing it. I don't lecture much. The child does the work while I watch for where the thinking goes off track.
Tertiary Students:
For business subjects, I teach the way these modules are actually marked, which is through application. We use real cases, including my own. I run a company, so we can talk about what strategy or organizational behavior looks like when there's real money and real people involved.
For assignments I work backwards from the rubric. I won't write the work for you, but I'll make sure you can defend every line of it.
Lesson length:
Primary runs 1 to 1.5 hours. Diploma, degree and master's runs 1.5 to 2 hours. Happy to adjust according to the students' needs.
Who this is for
P1 to P6 science and English, including PSLE prep. Diploma students taking business modules. Undergraduate and master's students doing management, marketing, strategy, operations, human resource management, negotiation and organizational behavior. Working adults going back to study part time.
I stick to the management and strategy side. No finance, accounting or economics. I'd rather be very good at what I know than just okay at everything.
