About Valene
I am a former journalist and newspaper editor with over 20 years' experience in the industry. Part of my job was training young and aspiring writers, often non-first-language English speakers, to become award-winning journalists. I have offered online assistance on a private basis to university students who needed to improve their writing skills and as a result, their overall grade. In the age of artificial intelligence (AI), I also assist with the responsible use of the program and prompt generation skills to better equip students who are using Chat GPT, Gemini, Grok, etc., to assist them with their studies and not use it unethically.

Lessons are conducted in English and I am able to assist non-first-language English speakers as well.
A coaching style to tutoring is applied where the student is encouraged to share their thoughts constantly.
Feedback is provided regularly and students are never reprimanded for sharing opinions.
The content of the lesson is dependent on the student's needs. An example is if they require essay writing assistance, then the first step is to ascertain what the student understands about essay writing. The sessions would be broken down into focusing on the introduction (thesis statements and why this is imperative), the body (building and providing evidence for arguments), and a conclusion (bringing the thesis statement home).
The lessons are aimed at young adults (16 years and older).
