About Sally

I’m an experienced English teacher who believes that good lessons start with getting to know the person behind the language. Whether you’re learning for work, exams, travel, study or everyday life, I’ll work with you to create lessons that suit your level, goals, interests and circumstances.

I teach General English, Business English and Exam Preparation, with a flexible, personalised approach. We’ll have a clear learning plan, regular review and plenty of opportunities to practise and build on what you’ve learned. Homework and self-study activities are available when useful — but never just for the sake of giving you more work!

My lessons use a wide range of materials and activities, including conversation, role plays, videos, images, games, exercises, news articles and exam practice. I like lessons to be practical, varied and memorable, with plenty of opportunity for you to actually use the language.

I’ve taught adults of all levels from many different countries and have accumulated thousands of hours of online teaching experience, alongside more than 15 years of group and one-to-one teaching.

My wider experience also shapes the way I teach. I’ve worked in immigration, hospitality and tourism, have extensive international travel experience and have hosted students from overseas. These experiences have given me a genuine interest in people, cultures and communication — and an appreciation that everyone learns differently.

I also bring strong digital and technology skills, which allow me to make good use of online tools and resources while keeping lessons straightforward and accessible.

Most importantly, I take a holistic, student-centred approach. Learning a language isn’t just about grammar and vocabulary; it’s about communication, confidence, culture and being able to use English effectively in the real world.

About the lesson

> Lesson duration and format: Lessons are 30 minutes or 60 minutes > Lesson content: Lessons are bespoke and individually planned for each learner. All lessons contain a mixture of skills (Speaking, Writing, Listening, Reading) and language (grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation). Activities aim to provide maximum practice so confidence and fluency is improved. Attention is given to accuracy and regular correction is provided. Feedback is given after each activity and throughout the course so progress can be checked and reassessed. Materials are varied (audio, visual, text) and provided by the tutor. Home study tasks are optional. The aim of the lessons is to improve communicative competence. Simulation (role play) activities and lots of practice with the guidance of the tutor will achieve fast progress but in an enjoyable, stress-free environment. Patient and experienced tuition will guide the learners and give the tools to reach their best potential.
