About Omar

I have approximately 12 years of industry experience as a software engineer, including roles at Meta and Amazon, where I worked at the Senior Software Engineer level. This gives me practical experience with software development, debugging, algorithms, system design, and the engineering practices used in professional environments. I can connect classroom concepts to how they are actually used in industry, while still approaching material from a student's perspective.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is centered on understanding rather than memorization. I aim to help students develop the ability to reason through problems independently, while adapting my explanations to their current level of understanding. I use a combination of conceptual explanations, worked examples, guided problem-solving, and hands-on coding. When a student is struggling with a particular concept, I try to identify the underlying gap in understanding rather than simply providing the answer.

A typical lesson begins by reviewing the student's goals and identifying any areas they are having difficulty with. I then introduce or clarify the relevant concepts using simple examples before progressively moving toward more complex problems. For programming-related material, I place a strong emphasis on writing and debugging code together. I encourage students to explain their reasoning as they work, which helps identify misconceptions and develops problem-solving skills. We finish by reviewing what was covered and identifying what the student should practice independently.
