About Ling

I recently graduated with my Foundation in Law, and along the way I received the Student Excellence Award from Brunei's Ministry of Education for my overall O-Level results, including an A in English. But what I care about most isn't the certificates rather it's learning itself. I've always loved the feeling of understanding something new, and there's honestly nothing more rewarding than watching a student have that same moment: when something confusing suddenly makes sense and you can see their confidence grow. That's why I teach. I want to learn alongside my students, not just talk at them. I'm patient because I remember what it's like to struggle with a topic, and I try to explain things the way I'd have wanted them explained to me. I'm friendly and approachable, so no question ever feels too small to ask, and I genuinely enjoy being part of a student's growth, one lesson at a time.

About the lesson

I teach English through a balance of practical skill-building and creative development. On the practical side, we work through past-year papers, learn how to identify keywords in comprehension passages, and build core techniques like summarizing and paraphrasing. On the creative side, I help students explore new themes and sharpen their descriptive writing through guided practice. Every lesson is curated to the individual student during each session I observe where they struggle most and focus on those areas until they feel genuinely confident, rather than rushing ahead. I explain things in a clear, easy-to-understand way and adapt my approach to each student's weaknesses. Lessons typically run around 1 hour 30 minutes. My teaching draws on over a year of tutoring experience with peers, and I work with students from lower secondary up to IGCSE level. I'm patient, approachable, and friendly, so students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as they learn.
