About Dani

I'm a pianist, composer and arranger based in Kerala. I won the India Film Project season 11 Platinum Song of the year for the song "Mann Ki Baat". I have had the opportunity to work on projects like LIVE 1000, which set a Guinness World Record in 2020. I have also collaborated with various artists such as Pritam, The Nooran Sisters, Hillsong United, Reshma Raghavendra to name a few and have been producing music for films, ads and other commercial projects. I started my musical journey playing the piano at the age of 8 and picked up the guitar shortly after. I have had formal music training under Trinity College, London and B.Mus in Music Production from the True School of Music, Mumbai.

  • 1. Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

I got into music at the age of 8. I started to learn the piano first and then picked up the guitar shortly after. I have always been captivated by the music and the rollercoaster of emotions it could take people through, myself included. Music is a universal language that transcends all boundaries and has the ability to make people feel emotions without the need for words. I have spent a lot of my time trying to interpret and understand what makes great music great, to figure out what works and what doesn't. I would be more than happy to share with you what I've learned in music over the years.
  • 2. What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

I believe in paying forward to what I have learned so that it can have a positive impact on other people.
  • 3. How does your work help society?

Being able to play and understand music is a form of intelligence that can be developed through practice. Practicing an instrument regularly can boost creative thinking, and memory and helps general well-being apart from being able to learn songs.
  • 4. If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

A few of the names that come to mind are Cory Henry, Avial, Dirty Loops, Porcupine Tree, and Michael Jackson.
What I really appreciate about them is their willingness to put in the effort they needed to reach their level of excellence and proficiency.
  • 5. Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

    Reading, web design, and coding.
  • 6. Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

You might have heard of "perfect pitch". It's the very rare ability to recognize any musical note without the need for a reference pitch usually provided by an instrument. It's commonly understood that it can only be developed during childhood, and that too is not guaranteed. So, I was part of a performance a couple of years ago with a band in which all 3 songs were in the key of C. After that performance, I noticed that the note C still hasn't left my head and I can sing it back from memory to this day. So I wonder if the note stuck in my head due to that performance or because I have been practicing a lot of music in C in general from the age of 8.
