About Paul

I started playing bass as a self-taught hobbyist during my studies in Sydney, and within a year I knew music was what I wanted to dedicate myself to. After returning to South Africa, I auditioned for and was accepted to the South African College of Music at UCT after only one year of playing bass, graduating with honors and distinction.
That was 7 years ago. Since then I've been teaching, gigging, and building a career as a producer. During my time at UCT I discovered music production through Ableton Live, and that's where my passion for electronic music took root. On stage I've played bass, keys, guitar, and saxophone, often while DJing simultaneously.
I bring that same curiosity and dedication to my students. Whether you're just starting out or looking to level up, you'll get lessons grounded in real musical experience, not just theory from a textbook. Trust me, I've been there.

About the lesson

I teach from real, hands-on experience. No dry theory for its own sake, everything we cover connects directly to your playing and your music.
Lessons are practical and goal-driven. We'll work through challenges, introduce new concepts, and apply them straight away so progress feels immediate. I do online lessons as well, although I recommend in-person lessons.

What I teach:
Electric bass, guitar, music theory, and music production (Ableton Live focus)

Who it's for:
Beginners to intermediate students including self-taught musicians looking to fill the gaps. Open to teenagers and adults.

Paul is one of the most talented producers I've worked with.
His ear for producing is unmatched and has taught me so much. I have learnt about so many Ableton shortcuts in the process of making music together.
I'm confident that Paul can remake any genre after a few hours of research.
Paul has always understood music at a fundamental level which he perfected at university, where we met, studying for our music degrees. If you want someone that is easy to work with and efficient at what he does, Paul is your guy!
