About Emma

My name is Emma, and I am a Baylor University graduate! While at Baylor, I studied Political Science, Spanish, and Economics in the Honors College. I graduated Summa Cum Laude. My success in school was entirely determined by my ability to know HOW to study- a skill which many very bright students don't develop early enough. I want to help YOU develop that skill! How do you stay organized, prioritize well, and get better grades? I'd love to help you answer these questions as you improve your classroom English skills.

About the lesson

I am a firm believer that clarity and consistency are the keys to learning well. My lessons, accordingly, work a little like this:

1. Explanation first: It is absolutely vital that, before a student is thrown into practice, the student understands the basics of what's being studied that day. I start with a clear explanation of the day's concept(s), giving a short, simple lecture with accompanying photos and charts to keep students engaged.

2. Questions: I encourage students to ask questions! This is how you realize where gaps are in your knowledge so that simple mistakes don't become permanent errors. I give a chance for students to ask questions AND I cover frequently asked questions about the given topic.

3. Practice: Without employing the concept, a student won't remember what they've heard, or be able to use the lesson practically. I prepare a multitude of practice avenues (often depending on the student, especially if a repeat student). This may include game or puzzle formats, simple worksheets, or interactive practice. This practice section allows for a student to stumble through a concept and ask relevant questions.

4. Self-quiz: I then provide the student with an opportunity to "test" their new skill: to put what they've learned into practice in a tangible way. The goal of this section of my lessons is to help a student practice testing a skill the way they will in a classroom setting.

5. After self-quizzing is over, we will go over the student's work together to look at what was done successfully and what was missed. This will allow for corrections early on in the student's understanding of a new concept.
