About Dongquan
I am a native Chinese growing up in the ethnically diverse Southeast China with snow-capped peaks and the unique karst scenery.
As an academic working as a Research Fellow/Statistician at UCL, my academic background brings me the ability to build learning step-by-step (e.g. teaching characters systematically) and structure lessons around clear learning goals (e.g. following a syllabus aligned learning plan depending on your exam board). However, this doesn't mean that my teaching is not fun or interactive. I have more than 7 years of tutoring experience, focusing on maths originally, however, as a native Mandarin speaker who truly appreciates the beauty of the language, I started tutoring Mandarin and have enjoyed helping others ever since.
I am fully DBS checked (updated on 1 Sep 2025). My standard price* can be seen on my profile. I may need to charge for my travel based on the distance I will need to travel.
*Standard price applies to casual learners and up to GCSE/HS4 level only. My rate is £45/hr for A-level and HSK4+ and £50 for professional learners.

My teaching approach depends on the student. I don't believe in "one style suits all". I will get to know you, your habit of learning and thinking.
For those with an exam to prepare for (HSK, GCSE etc): I will make a tailored studying plan, syllabus-aligned, based on your specific learning target. Each session we will focus on one/multiple key topics.
For casual learners (including kids and teens): the class will become a lot more interactive and fun! Depending on your specific needs I will adjust my class material.
For professionals: we will focus on high-stakes communication—negotiations, professional terminology, and office etiquette.
