About Sheena

About Me as a Mandarin Tutor

I am a fluent Mandarin speaker with a strong focus on teaching practical, everyday language rather than just test preparation. With extensive experience in reading, writing, and speaking Mandarin, I aim to help students gain the skills they need for real-life conversations—whether it’s ordering food, traveling, or chatting with locals. Although I am new to formal tutoring, my approach is structured yet flexible, tailored to each student’s pace. I emphasize building confidence and fluency, creating an engaging learning environment where students can use Mandarin in daily situations with ease.

3. Speaking & Listening Practice (20 mins)
• Role-play a scenario or dialogue.
• Practice responding to questions or audio clips.
4. Reading & Writing (15 mins)
• Read a short passage aloud.
• Practice writing characters with pinyin
5. Wrap-up (5 mins)
• Review key points and assign simple practice.

Teaching Methodology & Techniques

1. Student-Centered: Tailor lessons to their goals and pace.
2. Immersive: Use Mandarin as much as possible with visuals and real-life examples.
3. Interactive: Practice real-life scenarios and games.
4. Reinforce & Review: Regularly revisit past content for retention.

Techniques

• Vocabulary: Teach in small themed chunks with flashcards or images.
• Pronunciation: Focus on tones through drills and fun exercises.
• Scaffolded Learning: Start with basics like radicals and simple phrases.
• Feedback: Encourage progress and correct mistakes gently.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor

1. Clear Explanations: Simplify complex concepts for easy understanding.
2. Active Engagement: Keep students motivated with fun, dynamic activities.
3. Adaptive Techniques: Quickly adjust methods based on student feedback.
4. Long-Term Success: Build strong foundations for continued learning.
