About Alana
I am an NYU student studying music composition and urban design. My college studies have largely been specialized in these fields, but build upon a strong, well-rounded academic background.
I graduated with high academic honors from Phillips Exeter Academy, and achieved a score of 770 in both the SAT Math and Reading Sections. I studied math through BC Calculus, completed college-level coursework in English literature and history, and regularly both sought and offered assistance at peer tutoring sessions. Having been on both sides of things, I am well equipped to help students gain fluency and confidence in their studies, especially English, math, and SAT preparation.

The most progress comes with genuine engagement. We can't always love schoolwork, but we can approach it in a way that makes it interesting and satisfying.
Memorization and technical terms are just one element of learning math. Any problem can be reframed - understood not just as numbers on a page, but as a logic puzzle, or a penciled representation of concrete ideas.
My goal as a math tutor is to identify students' specific difficulties and find the right explanations that click for each individual. I am open to students in middle school and high school, studying anything from arithmetic to algebra. With the right angle, I believe anyone can start to enjoy the challenge of math.
