About Erin
Hi,
My name is Erin Bolin and I'm a certified Pre-12th grade Reading Specialist. I provide 1:1 reading, spelling, and handwriting intervention as an Orton-Gillingham tutor in Portland, OR. I received my Master of Arts in Teaching and Reading Specialist certification, from Concordia University.
I have been teaching and tutoring for over 15 years, with extensive training in dyslexia tutoring and reading intervention.
My favorite area is teaching elementary students to read and spell. I have specialized dyslexia training and use an Orton-Gillingham based, structured literacy framework to teach reading and spelling using a multisensory approach.
I have tutored many students with both symptoms of dyslexia and a diagnosis of dyslexia. It's a special moment to see the light spark when students crack the code, learning to blend sounds, and later develop into fluent readers! I love seeing students make the connection between sounds and letters as they learn to spell.
My favorite intervention is working with students on spelling using white boards through dictation. Students practice segmenting the individual sounds (phonemes) in words, then write down the corresponding symbols (letters) that represent those sounds.

Typically, I will meet with a client to do a reading assessment. This will set the tone of the reading intervention to follow. I usually meet with students 2-3 times/week, although more is an option as well! I continue working with clients until they have met their reading goals.
