This means I could personalise my teaching very effectively. Good Schools Guide 2018 said of me: 'The teaching is dynamic, making effective use of technology without sacrificing the rigour of more traditional methods. In a Year 8 Latin lesson boys were highlighting words they had problems remembering followed by a session based around pictures to assist visual learners.' I get to know what works for people, and then I put great effort into providing material that suits.

My first priority is to get to know the student - their natural learning style, and what they are interested in - emotions as well as intellect. A lot of the problems with learning stem from the student having a learning style that doesn't match the teacher's methods, and also the student finding the subject (or teacher) not engaging enough. I was Head of Classics at a prep school for 11 years and have taught up to A Level, and I have been tutoring from KS2 and CE up to A Level since 2000.
