About Alexander
I am a DPhil (PhD) at Oxford researching graph databases and their applications, and have been teaching for 10 years. I received master’s degrees from both LSE (Government) and Peking University 北大 (Public Policy) and an undergraduate degree in finance from UIBE, having been involved in teaching and curriculum development throughout that process. My pedagogy is very personalised and tailored to your existing knowledge base, and I can take on someone with little to no background in programming to become a confident coder or statistician. Apart from this, I have successfully got my students into LSE, UC Irvine, UCLA, UCL, Warwick, and the Sorbonne by helping them with their applications. My teaching focuses primarily on applying quantitative methods in the social sciences, but I have some familiarity with life sciences as well, having collaborated on a biochemistry project from a data management standpoint.

Typical lessons last 1.5-2 hours, where we go over your required readings and essay questions you have been set. I have extensive experience teaching public policy and quantitative or mixed methods research design, having taught those at LSE, Oxford, and beyond. The exact format of the session will be determined by your requirements, and mostly revolve around gaining insights from theory and finding practical examples of policies. Most lessons are based on LSE’s GV263 module but will be adjusted according to your course’s requirements. I have previously taught GV263 Public Policy Analysis at LSE’s Department of Government and am currently involved in teaching Data Engineering (programming, scraping, and databases in DS105 and DS205) at the LSE Data Science Institute. If you have some pressing projects like a thesis or a dissertation to complete, you will be in the right hands!

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Alex made the lessons really engaging. When I first started learning with Alex I had a very basic understand of the English language, now I feel confident in any situation thanks to Alex. I would recommend Alex as he is the best teacher I have had for English.
I have been studying English with Alexander for two years, and during this time my level of English has improved significantly. He is an excellent teacher, and I highly recommend him both as a teacher in general and as an English tutor in particular.
Alexander pays great attention not only to grammar but also to correct pronunciation. Every lesson is very well-structured and includes a mix of grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, and various exercises. The programme was always rich and challenging, yet at the same time engaging and enjoyable.
The lessons were held in a very positive and motivating atmosphere. Alexander has a unique ability to explain and present new topics clearly, making even difficult aspects of English easy to understand. He is also very responsible and well-organised. From time to time, we even had lessons outdoors, which created a friendly atmosphere and gave me extra motivation to practise speaking English.
Thanks to his professionalism and teaching style, learning English has been both effective and inspiring. I would highly recommend Alexander to anyone looking to improve their English.
A highly competent, erudite teacher and a wonderful person.
