About Ian
I'm an NYC abstract artist. I make small paintings, drawings, and mixed-media pieces—and I teach the same way I work: start simple, keep the hand moving, and finish what you start.
Parkinson's changed how I use my hands, so I had to rebuild my practice from the ground up. That slow restart taught me more about making art than any class ever did. I know what it feels like to freeze, to hate the first marks, and to find a way forward anyway.
In lessons I'm a working artist, not a lecturer. We use real materials, pick one problem at a time, and keep the pace honest. If you want patient, practical help making work that actually gets done, that's what I teach.

**Teaching method**
We make work from the first minute. Real materials, fewer rules, more marks. I teach technique only when your piece actually needs it—so you learn by doing, not by sitting through a lecture.
**Typical lesson**
A short warm-up to get the hand moving. One clear focus for the hour: start a piece, unstick a painting, simplify a drawing, or try mixed media. I show a little, you work a lot, and we adjust as you go. You leave knowing exactly what to do next.
**What sets me apart**
I’m a working NYC artist who still makes and sells art. After Parkinson’s, I had to rebuild my practice from scratch—so I know the freeze, the self-doubt, and how to keep going anyway. Lessons stay patient, practical, and honest.
**Who it’s for**
Beginners and intermediate teens and adults. Best if you’re stuck starting, coming back after a break, or tired of tutorials
