Here is a comprehensive, high-yield compilation of the most important lines and concepts directly from NCERT Biology textbooks, structured by chapters/units to help you revise quickly and score maximum marks in exams.
Unit I: Reproduction
Sexual Reproduction in Flowering Plants
Microsporogenesis: The process of formation of microspores from a pollen mother cell (PMC) through meiosis is called microsporogenesis.
Tapetum: The innermost wall layer of the anther. It nourishes the developing pollen grains and is multinucleate with dense cytoplasm.
Pollen Viability: In some cereals like rice and wheat, pollen grains lose viability within 30 minutes of release; in some members of Rosaceae, Leguminosae, and Solanaceae, they maintain viability for months.
Double Fertilization: Unique to angiosperms. It involves two types of fusions: Syngamy (male gamete + egg cell \rightarrow zygote) and Triple Fusion (male gamete + two polar nuclei \rightarrow Primary Endosperm Nucleus / PEN).
Apomixis: A form of asexual reproduction that mimics sexual reproduction, producing seeds without fertilization (e.g., in some species of Asteraceae and grasses).
Human Reproduction
Spermiogenesis: The transformation of spermatids into spermatozoa (sperm).
Spermiation: The release of mature spermatozoa from the Sertoli cells into the lumen of the seminiferous tubules.
Implantation: The blastocyst embeds in the endometrium of the uterus, brought about by the blastomere cells, leading to pregnancy.
Placenta: Acts as an endocrine tissue and produces several hormones like hCG, hPL, estrogens, and progestins (essential during pregnancy).
