About Monika

Hi, my name is Monika Metro, and I would like to teach you English!

My passion to teach is driven by my ambitions to help others to teach themselves how to build, connect, and effectively work with their community and resources.

I grew up in a small town in the state of Connecticut, in the Northeast Region of the United States of America. I was raised and educated here, engaging in a rigorous high school STEM program where I found my passion for the environment. Today, I am an avid environmentalist searching for small and big ways to help improve our earth's health.

Growing up soccer was a huge part of life. Being a student athlete taught me discipline, communication, teamwork, and time management.

Additionally, I found a home doing yoga. This practice has become a daily habit and through its teachings I have transformed my perspective on life.

Following my 18 years in Connecticut, I attended university at Virginia Wesleyan University, in the state of Virginia a few hundred miles from home.

Before graduating in December of 2019 Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor's in science in Biology and Environmental Science, I immersed myself in countless opportunities and adventures in search of my calling and purpose.

Additionally, I found a passion for volunteering and giving back to my community. Through various school, sports, and church programs I am able to mentor and lead children in activities and lessons I am passionate about.

In 2021, I settled in a warmer climate in Florida, where I began to jump into my professional career. My professional career has taught me that I love working with and supporting the community, wherever I choose to call home.

In my professional career I have explored environmental consulting and analytical chemistry. With these jobs I was able to build organizational, time management, and communication skills.

At the end of 2021, I began to study to be an educator for English as a Foreign Language.

Through the International TEFL Academy I engaged in 170 hours of course work over 4 months, followed by hours of observing, student teaching, and tutoring to complete a practicum.

Following my class, I continued with my tutoring and I have been consistently working with one adult student to help improve her intermediate and conversational english.

Since beginning our sessions, my student can more confidently communicate her ideas verbally, preparing her to enter the workforce in America.

I would love the opportunity to help and teach others such as my student!

By teaching English, I am helping others gain access to opportunities that were otherwise not available to them. I find it important to facilitate an environment that creates room for diversity and different learning styles so my students can be best prepared for any situation or environment they may want to pursue.

About the lesson

My goal is to help my students transition into everyday English speakers and be able to function in a predominantly English speaking environment.

I am not just a teacher for your short lesson, but an English learning mentor and reference to help you work through your day to day challenges.

I will evaluate your abilities, help you produce appropriate goals to work towards, and implement lessons and activities to help you achieve that goal.

We will be having lots of conversations and I will be challenging you to use English more in your day to day lives.

I have tutoring experience working with individuals one on one. I work best with beginner and intermediate learners to learn basic concepts.

My approach includes me incorporating topics that interest you.

I am here to help you move forward in LIFE and not let English hold you back from achieving your dreams.

I would love the chance to get to assist you with manifesting your goals.
