How I Teach: I prioritise the learner's individual needs by ensuring I spend time getting to know my pupils very well in order to create a bespoke learning journey. I work collaboratively with parents and my pupils to set individual learning targets, or goals, based on what is most important to the development of my pupils. I have an excellent understanding of the Engagement Model and have training and extensive experience in fun and engaging lesson planning using strategies such as The Curiosity Approach and Attention Autism which uses an irresistible invitation to learn and inspires intrinsic motivation to engage in learning. I believe that real-life, hands-on, authentic learning is vital to learning and would embark on face-to-face sessions in the community such as attending a local café to practise making choices, using communication tools and AAC, social engagement and self-confidence; Supermarkets to work on literacy and numeracy skills in action, researching a recipe, creating a shopping list and cooking a meal; or catching the bus to the town centre. Lesson Length: Typically a lesson can last 45 minutes however this can be tailored and priced according to the individual needs of the pupil. My Qualifications/Experience: I have worked in Special Needs School for 16 years as a TA, teacher and now currently an Assistant Head Teacher with responsibility in Early Years Support, Behaviour Support, Health and Wellbeing and Outreach Support. I have a Master's in Autism. Who are the lessons for: I have extensive experience in supporting pupils in the early years. I am trained to support the communication development of my pupils using strategies that I have completed the qualifications for such as Intensive Interaction, The Curiosity Approach, Attention Autism, PECS, coreboards, AAC devices and Signalong. I focus on building engagement and readiness to learn using a child-led approach focusing on the sensory needs of my pupils. I also have extensive experience of supporting pupils with high needs including behaviour and wellbeing support, implementing the TEACCH approach and I am a Thrive practitioner. I believe it is incredibly important to focus on the Independent Living Skills of pupils of all ages, from toileting and personal hygiene to communicating to others in the community to employment support, and have supported pupils with a range of additional learning needs, including ASD, ADHD, Down's Syndrome, Global Delay and Cerebral Palsy.
