About Vasil

I am a First-class (Hons) Graduate with a BA in International Relations from Royal Holloway University of London.

I am currently finishing my Masters in International Security and about to begin a PhD in Politics.

I have been tutoring family and school friends since Year 11, and I enjoy helping young adults achieve their full potential. I am a firm believer in the notion of being able to achieve anything you set your mind on. I have approximately 200 hours of tutoring experience.

I completed my GCSEs in 2016 with 6 - A*, 5 - A, 1 - B; alongside completing an Algebra Award (Pass), Further Maths AQA (A*^) and an As Level Russian Language (A)
Additionally, I still keep up with the requirements for most GCSE subjects, while helping my brother through his journey.

In 2018 I completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) with 38 points, and my higher subjects were: English Literature, Global Politics and History.

Specialising in International Relations for my degree, I am delighted to offer lessons for any political or philosophical subject from GCSE to University Level, be it A-Level Politics, IB Global Politics, Sociology or English.

I am currently studying MSc International Security, and I specialise in Security Studies, Defence and Public Opinion. I have helped undergraduate students go up a grade boundary by improving their essay skills, and have tutored politics and international relations up to and including university level.

Having lived in Bulgaria until 13 years of age, and starting Secondary School in England in Year 9, I believe that my first hand experience of trying to learn the English Language as a non-native speaker, and achieving an A* only three years later has helped me master the techniques of the language. Thus, most of all, I would love to help out students, who are studying English as a non-native language for their GCSEs, A-Levels, IB Diploma, or University Entry Exams.

I am a firm believer in the ability of every person to achieve their best, and I do not agree that there could be an universal teaching pattern for everyone. Every person has different strengths and weaknesses, and my strategy is to polish the strengths and eliminate the weaknesses one by one.

Therefore, my methodology begins with a 30 min free introductory meeting, during which we can get to know each other, and decide whether we can work together in the future. During the initial session, I aim to ask the student for details in the specific course they are taking and discover what their personal study and revision processes are.

The key to achieving high grades in exams is technique! This is why I focus 70% of my efforts into teaching students the best exam techniques, including subject and exam-board specific ways to answer questions and get the highest marks possible.

This helps in the development of a personalised programme, which can help them achieve their best - are they a visual or oral learner, do they prefer using flash cards, posters or games, etc.

Finding the specific syllabus for their course and using it to our advantage is also a huge factor in helping someone achieve their full academic potential.

The following few sessions would allow me to get to know the student better and discover any other traits and strengths, which we could use for our advantage, tweaking the programme as we go.
