About Kailee

Hi! I'm Kailee Quessenberry, a 4th-year undergraduate student at Florida State University. I am currently pursuing a degree in Meteorology with a minor in Mathematics. I also got my IB diploma in May 2023 with a 7 in AI SL mathematics, so I am fully aware of any IB-specific curveballs. Math is my absolute favorite subject — particularly when it applies to weather. I have taken and excelled at the following courses in university: Calculus (I, II, and III), Thermodynamics, Applied Statistics, Ordinary Differential Equations, Physics (I and II), and Atmospheric Dynamics/Physics.

I'm fully aware of how frustrating math can be. In a subject where answers are often right or wrong and almost never in-between, it is a struggle when certain concepts just don't come naturally. I want to create a comfortable, encouraging environment where students feel free to ask questions, make mistakes, and work through problems at their own pace. I’m patient, happy to explain something in different ways, and enjoy helping people make sense of difficult material.

My approach to tutoring is all about figuring out why a student is struggling with a particular topic and working from there. I think one of the most important parts of learning math is having a solid understanding of the fundamentals, so I like to focus on identifying any gaps in that understanding before moving on to more complicated problems.

I’m a big believer in breaking math down into manageable steps and explaining the reasoning behind each one. Rather than just memorizing formulas or learning how to solve one specific problem, I want students to develop a consistent approach to problem solving that they can apply to a variety of situations, so they can eventually tackle unfamiliar questions with confidence.

A typical lesson would start with discussing what the student is struggling with and working through a few examples together. From there, we’d gradually move on to more challenging problems, building on what they’ve learned and making sure they’re comfortable with the material before moving forward. I also like to have students talk me through their thought processes so I can better understand where they might be getting stuck.

I’m currently studying meteorology with a minor in mathematics, so math is a big part of what I do every day. I offer tutoring in algebra, precalculus, Calculus I–III, statistics, and ordinary differential equations (ODEs). I’m happy to work with high school or college students at any level of understanding. For students interested in atmospheric science, I can also help connect mathematical concepts to their applications in atmospheric physics.
