I was Ben’s PGCE English subject tutor at UCL Institute of Education and had the great pleasure of working with him from September 2017 – June 2018.

Ben is a remarkable young man who has already demonstrated a number of very significant strengths in the classroom and at UCL/IOE. His lessons are meticulously planned and structured with lots of varied, interesting activities including individual, paired and group work and differentiated materials. His classroom and behaviour management is extremely assured and based upon really excellent relationships with students. He is a really excellent communicator, has a very purposeful yet nurturing manner and is able to establish and maintain a very well - paced learning environment in his lessons. Students respond exceptionally well to Ben and he has a very keen sense of the need to include all pupils, structuring activities so that all students can participate fully and achieve progress.

Highly professional in his outlook and demeanour, Ben is extremely capable, wholly dependable and has tremendous integrity. Reflective and highly organised in his approach, he builds very strong, and highly constructive, relationships with students and colleagues learning extremely rapidly from every new situation. His powerful commitment to education, collaborative yet personalised approach to learning and his commitment to helping every student in his care to progress all indicate that Ben is already a highly effective classroom practitioner. He has never been subject to any disciplinary action and is very well – suited indeed to working with young people.

Ben is an intelligent, exceptionally capable and likeable young person who has been balanced, generous and proactive in his dealings with everyone. He stood out from the beginning because of his great personality, really exceptional communication skills and warmth. Ben thinks independently and has considerable judgement and common sense. He has experience working in other fields before coming into Education and is already an exceptionally fine teacher. I recommend him to you very strongly indeed and without reservation.
