About Benjo
I have a great deal of practical experience working as a Pharmacist and as a laboratory researcher in Pharmaceutics.
I have taught Pharmacy undergraduates in a variety of settings, including University classrooms and in the laboratory as well as in the workplace.
I have around ten years experience working as a private Science tutor, teaching students of all ages up to A-Level.
I am also experienced as a Drug/Alcohol Recovery Professional and am trained in safeguarding. I have detailed practical knowledge of referrals and admissions to specialist drug/alcohol secondary services in SW England.

I always teach my students to understand WHY an answer is correct. Memorising facts is necessary at times, but UNDERSTANDING the answer is far more important. It helps the student to remember, as they are thinking more deeply about the question but more importantly it lays a scientific foundation that will be built on in the future.
The technique I use to do this is posing an initial question, awaiting the response then using leading questions to draw the student towards the correct answer. This lays the scientific bedrock that the student will continue to build upon.
The ability to reason logically and inductively on scientific principles will greatly assist the student now, but also give them the tools to pursue a future scientific career or profession.
Masters degrees and Doctorates require a great deal of self-directed learning, and also independent research. It's vital that a student can apply scientific principles to critically analyse data and interpret this into clear and useful information. The techniques I teach ensure my students can think for themselves and reach sensible conclusions, using solid scientific principles and logic. This will be invaluable in their future scientific endeavours, especially if they intend to pursue further education in a scientific profession.
