About Erin
As a PhD candidate and soon-to-be professor, I am very passionate about teaching, tutoring, and the incredibly enriching process of academic development. I aim to empower students to access and articulate their own points of view while providing them with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in higher education.
My academic background is in the social sciences and humanities, and I have extensive experience with teaching, tutoring, and grading academic writing. I have taught three academic writing courses at the college level, served as a senior writing fellow at Boston University since Fall of 2023, and am completing a PhD in Political Science. As a PhD candidate and instructor, I have taught American Politics and Political Theory for the past 5 years. I have also served as a Teaching Fellow and a grader for numerous courses in the social sciences and humanities. Additionally, I was a grader for the AP American Government and Politics exam in 2023. Lastly, I have experience as a copyeditor of academic work, most recently for a forthcoming manuscript from Cambridge University Press.

I embrace a student-centered approach to tutoring, with tailored sessions for every client's specific circumstances and goals. I follow the 'Three P' approach - Person, Process, Product. I take as the top priority the 'person' and their individual development. The second priority is 'process,' where the focus is mainly on the student's thinking and writing process, and working to develop technical skills to capitalize upon their existing strengths and fortify areas that are in need of improvement. The third priority is the 'product.' Depending on the student's needs and circumstances, the 'product' may refer to an essay they are writing for a course, a resume or application essay, or a standardized test result. Tutoring is, therefore, not simply focused on a particular assignment or test but on overall skill development and educational empowerment. In any case, prioritizing personal development and the learning process simultaneously maximizes performance on the final product.
Lesson plans vary based on subject, but are designed to provide students with the foundations of writing and reading comprehension at the undergraduate and graduate level. This may include: college preparatory material (including standardized testing preparation); developing writing skills for college applications; college-level academic writing; creative writing; thesis development; literature comprehension; and special topics in English, Literature, Politics, and Philosophy.
My approach and experience as a college-level instructor and tutor would be well-suited to students at the high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels.
