About Ian
I have always been interested in chemistry and any other type of scientific discipline since I can remember. This interest started from a young age where I worked with tropical fruit production and learned about plant pathology from my father at my family farm in Homestead up until the end of high school. In college I chose chemistry as my major and immediately fell in love with the complexity and theoretical completeness of the subject. I did undergraduate research and decided to join a PhD program in chemistry from that experience. I joined FSU for my PhD in 2020 and immediately began teaching during my time there in addition to my research in magnetism. This teaching experience taught me how to connect with and inspire students in addition to creating structured lesson plans. I graduated with my PhD in December and am excited to share my knowledge and passion with you.

My lessons focus on understanding the underlying physics behind chemical theories that are taught in general, analytical, physical, inorganic and materials chemistry. They begin with a general overview of the topics being covered where the mathematical theories behind the subject are reviewed and once we have a good understanding of the theories we move on to focused question-based lessons where you learn how to solve problems. In addition to focused questions we will go over problem-solving skills that will help you navigate test questions you have not seen before. I can teach chemistry from high school level to college major-level classes including labs. My expertise is in inorganic, materials, general, analytical, and physical chemistry.
