About Joseph
I am a PhD candidate in Classics at the University of Edinburgh, with an MA and MSc in Classics from the same institution. I teach Classics, broadly, to undergraduates and postgraduates as part of the university's Classics department. I specialise in Late antiquity & Latin Literature & I have taught on several courses in HCA (the School of History, Classics, & Archaeology) at the University of Edinburgh...Such as Roman World 1a/1b, Latin 1a/2a/1b/1c, Advanced/Intermediate Latin, the Transformation of the Roman world, and so on.
For my doctoral work, I am writing a commentary and translation for book six of Flavius Cresconius Gorippus' poem 'Iohannis', or 'de bellis Libycis', a sixth century Latin epic detailing the military actions of John Troglita against North African rebels. My research interests fall broadly within Latin literature, from Lucretius or Manilius to Gorippus or Statius. I offer one-to-one tuition online or in person in Edinburgh, and I am happy to design sessions ranging from regular weekly lessons to intensive revision courses.
